What’s the Difference between Elite HD/OG/Lite and the Elite Hybrid?
Elite HD/OG & Lite all perform best in a completely chalk free environment the grip is incredible when bars are clean and wiped down. The Elite Hybrid brings new chalk resistant technology that allows for superb chalkless grip while also performing well with some chalk exposure.
Should i go a size up for fingerless?
If you're experienced with this style of grip then potentially yes. However you do not need to have a lot of excess hanging over the bar like you might see some athletes do. Especially with how grippy these are, it doesn't aid in keeping you on the bar. We do not recommend sizing up as it increases the risk of getting grip locked on the bar. Sizing correctly will also reduce discomfort considerably and likely improve the longevity of your grips.
Should I chalk these?
In short, no. Rubber based (Elite range) grips will always perform best without chalk, however if there is some chalk on the bars or some exposure these will still perform exceptionally well. Chalking directly will not aid their grip and therefore should be kept for our chalk based grips the Base & Fibre grip ranges.
What pull up bars do these work best with?
Most pull up bars and rings, however if you have old chalked bars that are absolutely coated and rusted we’d recommend our chalked range instead like the Fibre grips. Do not use with taped bars, doing so will void your warranty
What’s the difference between the Elite Grips and Base/Fibre Range?
The Elite grips refers to a chakless grip that has non slip performance. Our Base & Fibre are best used with and excel with chalk. There are multiple variations with the grips which can be explored with the graphic below and in our Grip Comparison page.
Should I go fingerless or fingerholes?
One way you can decide is how you grab the pull up bar. Thumbs around, fingerhole may be better, Thumbs over, fingerless may be better. Especially when using for muscle ups thumb over the bar is the recommended use when completing bar muscle ups. But it does come down to personal preference. Fingerholes also offer other options such as to be used on KB's or on a barbell as needed. It's also worth noting you do not necessarily need to put your fingers all the way in the fingerholes, and just to the first knuckle will often give you more of a dowel effect to lock onto the bar with. Again test and trial and see what works best for you.
Are there any adjustments needed when using these grips?
The main differences is remembering to open the hand to let go instead of sliding off the bar, 'with great grip comes great responsibility' and it's important that you remember that what keeps you locked onto the bar is also what will stop you coming off. So a couple of things to consider:
- Always use first in a warm up setting or a skill setting first, before jumping into a workout. And certainly before competing.
- Practice letting go vs sliding off, it's a small adjustment and won't take long to feel natural
- When performing movements such as muscle ups you will need to learn to relax/open your hands at the top. Again practice first before completing in a workout under fatigue. Small adjustments that will make the movement a lot more comfortable.
These grips will transform all of your gymnastics movements, but may need time to adjust if you're not use to just how grippy they are.
*We do not recommend using for pull overs as this movement unless you are proficient at using these grips and opening the hand when rotating. Chalked grip options like Base & Fibre would be a better option.
What about in competition where the bars are all chalked up?
Some chalk on the bar will not affect these dramatically (unlike the traditional Elite grips). However for absolutely optimal grip if you have time and (it doesn't affect your partners/team mates grip) we'd still recommend a dry wipe of the bar. The choice is yours based on how locked in you want to feel.
As a larger CrossFit athlete (6’0” 215lbs) being glued to the bar has a lot of upside. These things are absolutely amazing and have made high volume gymnastics way more approachable!
These are amazing! I bought a pair because my sister had them and I wanted to be cool in CrossFit like her! The grip is incredible and my pull ups feel super strong. The all black looks reminds me I never left my emo days. I would buy another pair for sure!
Love the grips. Tried them after being extremely loyal to another brand for years. Definitely don’t regret my decision for given them a try. They have taken my gymnastics to a new level.
The grips are awesome—super lightweight. I use them without the wrist wraps, and the neoprene covering the wrists keeps them from digging into your skin. The grip is excellent, and they’re easy to flip out of the way when switching to other exercises. Overall, a great option.
What I am disappointed with is the shipping to Europe. Between taxes and—mostly—DHL’s service fees, I ended up paying double the product's price, with shipping costing more than the grips themselves. If you want to break into the European market, you really need a local warehouse here to prevent these absurd shipping markups.
The best grips by far! I've been shopping around to find the perfect grips and I've tried several other brands but nothing compares to the frog hybrids.
My gym is predominantely chalk bars, but even so, I'm still able to hold on for longer sets than ever before. I don't slip off the bar, they are extremely comfortable around my wrists.
I've been raving about them since I bought them and several others at the gym have followed suit.
The grips are very comfortable and basically a cheat code for pull-ups, C2B, T2B, etc. Can't wait to truly break them in and figure out the optimal use for me.
Grips exceeded my expectations!!
I’ve had other companies grips and the frog grips have been by far the best at keeping me connected to the bar. No need for chalk or re gripping constantly.
The thicker wrist section was something I didn’t think I was going to like, but it’s nice and does not dig into you.
The new wrist strap on the Elite Hybrid grips is extremely comfortable and the grips stick to everything. Smooth or textured bars, chalked or not chalked, you’re good to go!
My biggest problem was always excessive sweating, and with them, no matter what condition my hands are in, with or without chalk, I can continue my workout.
Nice quality and great material. Comfortable on the hands with a soft, secure grip, and very gentle on the wrists. Overall, a comfortable and well-made gymnastics grip.
So far so good. I was impressed with how well I can hold the bar with them on. I’ve been doing CrossFit for 3.5 years and one of the coaches recommended we try these. Now if they could just do my pull ups for me, that would be great! Lol. I use chalk-free bars, but I don’t wipe the bars down so they have remanent chalk on them and work well like that. Comfortable to wear.
Best grips ever, so comfortable & grippy at the same time.
Will see how the foam wrist cushioning holds up over time, would probably be better in the neoprene like other frog grips.
But so far so good
